Each State Representative represents approximately 3,000 people and earns $100 a year plus expenses for gas and an exemption from the $1 toll on I-93 toll back and forth from Concord, the state capital. The couple, who were married and changed their names after Edwards had her signs printed up, were campaigning outside a polling place in Manchester.

Union money funded the two women who would be out all day (7am to 7pm) in Salem, New Hampshire holding up Democratic signs. That did not necessarily mean they would vote for the Democrats, they said. When we spoke both indicated that they had not yet made up their mind. “It’s a difficult decision,” said one. The fellow with the Republican signs is a local activist.
